The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking for permission to conduct two more counselling rounds for PGCET 2026 admissions to MBA, MCA and M.E./M.Tech courses. KEA has also asked the court to direct AICTE to announce separate admission timetables for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
This comes from KEA's note No. ED/KEA/REC/01/2026, dated 9 October 2026. On the morning of 12 October the note was still the latest one on KEA's PGCET 2026 page, though its PDF link was not opening. If you get an error, refresh KEA's page later; nothing newer had replaced it.
What happens until the court decides
KEA is treating the coming days as a continuation of Round 1. Its note sets two windows:
| What | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Exercise your choice (one of the four choices) | Open now | 10:00 am, Tuesday 13 October 2026 |
| Rearrange your options | 2:00 pm, Tuesday 13 October 2026 | 10:00 am, Thursday 15 October 2026 |
KEA says the 13 October time will not be extended again. Your current choice details can be checked on KEA's website.
If you have already reported to a college
You are not locked in. KEA's note says students who have already reported to their allotted college can also log in and exercise a choice if they want to. This matters if you joined a Round 1 seat but would rather stay in the running for a better one, should the further rounds go ahead.
What the four choices mean for you now
After a seat is allotted, KEA asks you to pick one of four choices: broadly, accept and join; keep the seat but try for a better one; give up the seat but stay in the next round; or leave counselling. Which one suits you right now depends on how happy you are with your Round 1 seat, because the extra rounds depend on the Supreme Court's decision.
- If you are happy with your seat, there is no reason to change anything.
- If you want a better college and are keeping your current seat as a fallback, look closely at the choice that holds your seat while keeping you in later rounds.
- Be careful about giving up a seat in the hope of a better one. If the court does not allow further rounds, there may be no next round to fall back on.
Before you change your choice, read the exact wording of each choice on KEA's portal, because that wording is what counts.
Why the option window matters
From 2:00 pm on 13 October to 10:00 am on 15 October, you can rearrange your college and course options. If further rounds do happen, seats will be allotted on this list, so put the colleges you most want first, even if they look out of reach, and remove any you would not join.
What we are watching
KEA's next notice will follow the Supreme Court's order. If the court allows two more rounds, KEA will announce their schedule. If it does not, Round 1 allotments will likely stand as final. We will update this page as soon as KEA publishes its next notice.
If you are unsure whether to keep your seat or try for another, a counsellor can go through your rank, category and options with you before 10 am on 13 October.
